Comments | Overall good day. Pretty good conditions during the morning considering the past weekend's thaw and rain. Morning was better than afternoon since the lack of sunshine caused more snow to separate from the boiler plate hiding underneath. Fog and clouds for a greater portion of the day on the upper mountain, making it hard to see what you were hitting/avoiding and where you were going (good luck if you lost sight of your group!). Super disappointment for the Sunbowl. Stratton was doing "routine maintenance for the upcoming holiday week"...I say that in quotations because the story we got from numerous operators was anything less than bogus. The only cause that sounded authentic from one operator was that said above. The others were most definitely unsure or skipped whatever memo to go clambake before clocking in. Coming down the Supertrail we could see heavy welding and repair being done. It didn't help that the snow report posted in the Sunbowl lodge was wrong, stating that the Sunbowl Express was open and the Solstice lift was closed. Jeeze. Top it off with the fact that the Solstice lift had a come along set up on one of the towers...really lines up with the "routine maintenance" story. Unfortunately with regards to the uncontrollable weather and poor lift operation planning, Stratton had a tough day. Especially because the Sunbowl had the best weather for most if not all of the day. Major shout out to the groomers though, because without them the trails would have been just downright terrible. The Sunbowl trails were in fantastic shape thanks to their hard work and the lack of traffic on that side of the resort. Last trip there was Thanksgiving Day, perhaps we should have been back sooner!!! | |
