Comments | The thaw was definitely over today; temperatures were in the negatives and single digits throughout the day at Black. It was a beautiful bluebird day with no wind and not a cloud in the sky. Black weathered the thaw relatively well and trails which had snow made on them mostly retained a good base. Natural trails didn't fair so well and were left with many washouts and bare patches. All of the terrain which was officially open was groomed and the groomers did an excellent job preparing the snow surface. Ungroomed areas were rock-hard and not officially opened. The summit was open and both chairs were spinning, along with the rope tow. There was a decent crowd there, especially for Black, but there were often no lines at the lifts. They were setting up snow guns all day and they were ready to begin resurfacing. It was good to see that the damage was not catastrophic and hopefully the thaw is done for the season. |
