Session | Full Day | |
Ticket Type | M.A.X. Pass
Lift Lines | 6 to 10 minutes
Trail Conditions | 25% open; Packed Powder, Frozen Granular
Glades | Didn't venture in, but some where skiable, albeit with rocks and stumps sticking up.
Moguls | Upper Skidder has been seeded.
Terrain Park(s) | Either Binder or Tote Road, not sure which it was on technically.
Run of the Day | Upper Narrow Gauge
Food and Beverage | Food was okay, but the checkout was the longest line of the day (food got cold while waiting). Point of sale systems/process need to be improved; a 15 second transaction took a minute; a minute transaction took multiple minutes. I've seen two cashiers with normal cash registers handle the volume faster than the four cashiers with the current point of sale process (including mandatory receipt printing and the seemingly slow Boyne cards).
Comments | Cold partly sunny morning transitioning to snow flurries in the afternoon. Very nice packed powder conditions initially, but the trails were pretty congested and thus were getting scratchy. Four ways off the Skyline Quad, feeding into the SuperQuad complex. Sluce, Narrow Gage, and Tote Road all had a manmade base, but Upper Double Bitter was open on natural. Tote Road was scratchy from the wind and traffic. Upper Narrow Gage was the best of the bunch. Something like 8 ways down accessible from the SuperQuad. Sluce and Spillway were fun. Narrow Gage was good, but the Cribworks headwall was scraped (though folks were finding some packed powder lines on the side). Sheer Boom appeared to be open with natural snow and objects, but not many takers. Skidder had seeded bumps on the upper part, which could be avoided on the side. Not too bad below them. Hayburner and Kings Landing were scratchy in places, but nice in others. Tote Road was scratchy. Spurline was a mistake to take - natural snow and okay going until going around the corner - then lots of rocks. For the lower mountain, Lower Winter's Way and Boardwalk were both decent. The other two manmade routes were Candyland and Lower Tote Road. Haywire was open on natural snow, but with grass sticking up. Snowbrook was open all the way to the bottom and was good, but it's a long ride back up. Snowmaking in progress on the Whiffletree complex and Competition Hill, the latter of which has some very large whales. Looks like there may have been an issue with the Sidewinder snowmaking line (evidence of hydrants being opened wide up and drained). SuperQuad had decent lines, but it was about 5 minutes when taking the singles lane. Skyline wasn't quite as long of a line. Lower mountain lifts were pretty much ski-on. Seems like there's a little less natural snow here than in the Whites. A foot deep in some places, but other places looked a bit scoured. Nice to get some steeper terrain in after skiing lots of novice/intermediate terrain thus far this early season.
