Comments CommentsWas looking forward to skiing Waterville today, but in the end it was disappointing.

After checking the snow report last night, I purchased my ticket on the Waterville site for $49. More expensive than Black/Wildcat/Attitash, but less driving.

Unfortunately, I arrived to find all of the upper mountain lifts on windhold. No other ski areas in New Hampshire were on windhold (via snow reports and first hand accounts from friends). Windy, but did not see any chairs swaying (could see all of Green Peak, but not the very top of White Peaks/Sunnyside). Asked employees and they said the White Peaks Quad hadn't run in days, there were no plans to operate the Sunnyside, and that Green Peak would not open either. Person at the desk said the upper mountain lifts likely wouldn't open, and insisted that the Green Peak chair was closed because it "goes to the top."

On the plus side, the lower mountain conditions were generally good. Valley Run was packed powder/loose granular, as was the old work road (Trail 52). Rock Island/Stillness/Higher Ground hadn't been groomed and thus were frozen ruts with drifted snow.

Exhibition skied very well next to the Poma line with powder conditions.

Fresh tracks on Lower White Caps because there was no easy way to get back to an open lift from it.

Lower Sel's Choice was closed, but the other two T-Bar runs (Utter Abandon and World Cup) were excellent. World Cup was packed powder with some powder on the sides, whilst Utter Abandon was about 2 inches of nice powder.

I skied the lower mountain lifts (Valley Run Quad vertical is about 700 feet, World Cup T-Bar about 300 feet, and Lower Meadows Double about 160 feet) for about 3 hours hoping something would open, but upon hearing nothing else would open, I called it a day. Ironically even at that point, their conditions page claimed 5 chairs were open. Hopefully things change for tomorrow/next weekend, as there's still a lot of snow there.
