Comments | Was able to ski Snow's Mountain at Waterville Valley today, only the second time it's been open in the last 20 years. Despite the recent thaw, Waterville was able to get the ski area opened as planned today on natural snow. There were roughly 4 trails open, all of which were groomed yesterday. The very top of Face Off and Lift Line were not open, but one could take a catwalk across to them from Roundabout. Upper Roundabout had wall to wall grooming and coverage. Face Off was good until the junction with the other trails, were a septic tank was melting the snow from under. One could take a sharp left on a catwalk to avoid that, and then ski down the lift line. Lift Line was also decent. Overall, the remaining open terrain (parts of the ski area were developed into home lots years ago) is upper novice/lower intermediate. Despite a 600 or so foot vertical drop, it skis bigger than one might think. The lift is slow, but it's quite a novelty to be able to ski this area. The fog lifted after the first hour, resulting in partial views of Waterville Valley ski area and some occasional sunshine. Season passholders of all ages were coming and going, enjoying the special event Waterville put on for them. | |
