Comments CommentsAfter yesterdays powder day, I was due for a good old fashioned day of downhill ice skating.

Everything north was closed so I waited out the ice and arrived at 1. First time at Ragged. Only a few dozen cars in the parking lot. Spear Mountain lift was not running - they didn't want people skiing the steeps off of it. Summit Six and Barnyard were both running fine, albeit with chairs encased in ice. During the afternoon it was below freezing up top and above freezing down low, and that dictated conditions.

Upper half of the mountain was mostly a skating rink with some occasional patches of granular or whatever that were more skiable. Crew Cut had frozen golf balls, oh that was fun. Lower half of the hill was mostly granular and spring snow with icy patches. Birches had the best snow, it was soft granular the whole way down that was pretty nice to carve on. A fun rolling trail too. Skiers left of Exhibition had decent snow, the right side was icy up top and had bumps further down. Witnessed a bad fall - someone blew past a caution sign, snowboarded over a bare spot, and broke their arm with blood on the snow. Not the only injury I saw today, it was dangerous out there.

The greens and blues in and around Main Street were all decent, though Blueberry Patch to get to most of them was frozen cord. Got 8 runs in and called it an afternoon. Still better than sitting around and twiddling my thumbs.
