Comments | We took advantage of today's perfect weather to ski at Mount Jefferson in Lee. Mount Jefferson is the largest ski area in New England without a chairlift and they have a great variety of terrain, all of which was open today. Lift ticket rates top out at a very reasonable $45 for a full day adult lift ticket, and tubing is also offered at the mountain. The entire mountain is served by a classic Hall T-Bar. One either side of the mountain are long winding cruiser trails. As you work your way towards to center of the mountain, the trails get shorter and steeper. The trails have great character to them, and most are relatively narrow. Everything, except Pine Sluice Cutoff had been groomed and was mostly nice packed powder with a few windblown areas. Pine Sluice Cutoff had a wind crust, and was not great to ski, so I only took one run on it. The mountain relies entirely on natural snow, which they currently have enough of to provide good cover on all trails. One thing that we were treated to today that we did not get to experience on our last visit, were the spectacular views of Katahdin. Of the three Maine ski areas with views of the mountain, I think Jefferson's view is the best. There are many points around the mountain that Katahdin can be seen and it is very prominent, due to the relatively flat land between Mount Jefferson and Katahdin. Although they said that yesterday was one of their busiest days in quite a while, today was far less busy and there were never more than a handful of people on the mountain at any given time, although there were often more people over in the tubing park. Overall, it was an excellent day of skiing, and we were glad to have made it over to Jefferson again to ski on the fun and unique terrain. If you have the opportunity, definitely make it a point to visit and support this great community ski area! |
