Comments | Beautiful blue bird day at Berkshire East, taking advantage of what could be the last gasp of winter based on the current forecast. All main snowmaking trails were open. Guns ran last night, dropping strategic piles for the upcoming weather. Since they ran mostly fan guns, the new snow was a packed powder (rather than the frozen slush that air/water guns can put out). Otherwise, generally loose granular conditions. Steeps skied well in the morning; some scratchy spots in the afternoon. Cycled through UMass, Grizzly, and Flying Cloud. Upper Comp (below Lookout) and Comp were closed until early afternoon for a USSA race, but skied well thereafter. Fun to ski the new chute into Upper Comp. Intermediates were decent, with Chief probably being the scratchiest, while Hemlock was probably the nicest. Thin spots late in the day on the crossover from Chief to Cloud and on the new chute into Upper Comp. Lines were generally 3-5 minutes for the high speed quad. Only a few chair wait for the Summit Quad, but the line speed and constant slows/stops made it inefficient to take. No lines for West Quad. Trails were not at all crowded for the end of a vacation week. | |
