Comments | I started my season with a free day of skiing at Bretton Woods by using the voucher I received on the last day of their 2015-2016 season in April. When I arrived at 7:30 it was snowing and the snow guns were lit up all across the mountain. It was in the twenties all day and the snow began to taper off around noon. There was about 3 to 4 inches of new snow on the ground which led to some great skiing on the edges of the runs, which hadn't been groomed. The Zephyr and Bethlehem Express Quads were open, as well as the learning center. Each lift had one run down that was open, Range View from Zephyr and Ben from Bethlehem. Crawford's Blaze had been open on previous days, but it was closed due to low visibility. Snow guns were on all day across the mountain and on various parts of open trails. The snow held up quite well and there was very good coverage on the center of the trails; the sides were mostly natural snow only and got pretty thin at lower elevations. The low clouds lifted to about 4,000' later in the day, which allowed for some views of surrounding lower peaks and the sun even peeked through once or twice. The crowds were minimal, except for the mid-part of the day, when there were many race teams on the mountain training. The good coverage and natural snow made it a great way to start the season. |
