Comments CommentsFirst, Indy Pass & Cannon is a bit of an ordeal. You have to reserve your pass online, buy the $5 RFID Card, and even create a separate account, log in, and upload a phot ID. But if you do all this ahead of time, you are A-OK at the ticket window! Beautiful Day at Cannon! Cannon's own weather report for Saturday would have you believe it was going to be cold, windy and cloudy, instead it was calm, warm and sunny! Apparently the mountain was rock hard in the morning, but by 11 it started to soften up nicely, so I guess I was glad for my hour later that I wanted start. Bodie Fest!!?? Is that why all the lots were packed full? Still really no lines to speak of except for the front 5 Zoomer lift, which had the best spring snow. Headed to Mittersill around 12:30 and lapped the double 'till 3pm. Too me that was the best conditions on the whole mountain. Snow was great over there and virtually no lines. Some of the old trails aren't well mareked or marked at all. I found myself at the entrance of Idiot's delight and it was pretty soft, but I still took it cautiously since its so narrow and I did not know the trail at all. Came out on the side of the superslope just above North Slope and followed some kids into North Slope which I heard described as wet concrete and ended up going down the T bar line, then ducking back out to shuss past the new Tbar base and back to the double. This place could use a surface lift near the north slope(s). Headed back to Cannon at 3 and headed up the summit for only 2 runs. Vista Way at the summit was pretty good, but was pretty rock solid in places. Didn't get to try the HardScrabbles at all. Last run up the Cannon Ball quad at 3:40 I decided to try the saddle, as the weather was so perfect and there was a decent group walking up it already so late in the day. Much easier of a hike than I expected, and great views from there too. Trip down the old Taft was quicker/closer to the top of Mittersill. I guess I was expecting some epic journey through the woods. It was well worth the hike. If its on your bucket list, definitely try it! Also of note, Peabody Express Quad was much smoother than the last 2 years I've skied here. They must have done some much needed work on it.
