Comments | Today I gave their rope tow a try, and also did some cross country skiing. The rope tow slope is gentle at the bottom, but has a legitimate intermediate pitch on its top half. It is quite a workout hanging onto the rope on the steeper part. They have the stop gate set up too close to the unload, so it often gets tripped by the rope whipping when someone let's go at the top. This happened close to 10 times while I was there. They were lots of kids out taking lessons on the lower half, and a few going all the way to the top. It's a small slope, and it was only entertaining for about an hour. However, the lift tickets are only $10, and it's a great resource for the community to have! They're going to work on expanding to the top of the hill over the next couple of years with a new T-bar.
I then spent the rest of the day cross country skiing on their expansive trail network. The xc ticket was $15, which makes it the only place I know of where the xc ticket cost more than the downhill ticket. Their trail network was 100% open, and both the groomed and ungroomed trails were skiing very well! There were lots of people out today, and both the alpine and Nordic areas were busy all day, however, there are enough Nordic trails that once you get far away from the trail center and yurt, it feels very secluded. Wally's Way and North Koons are especially nice trails.
While I can't recommend driving any distance for the alpine skiing there, I absolutely can recommend visiting for the Nordic skiing, and then taking a few alpine laps while you're there.
