Comments | SNOW DAY! Arrived at 8:45, got a spot in the top lot, booted up and got in line. Gates opened right at 9am, with a reasonable crowd formed at both chairs. First chair ride up was fun, we were all singing along to ZZ Top’s La Grange from the lifty’s radio. Lots of smiles all day, chatty skiers and riders...I think we were all happy to see the flakes fly. Ragged’s snow report mentioned minimal grooming for the storm, and it was accurate. All green trails were groomed a minimum of two cat tracks wide, with a dusting of snow on top. Blue trails had one cat track down the middle, if not left natural. Headwall was left natural; Showboat was also left natural until the connector, and then Showoff had a single track down the middle. Both Headwall and Showboat had fair amounts of frozen granular popping through early in the morning. Upper Crewcut and Newfound were so much fun first runs! Four or five inches of powder on top of frozen granular, which started showing through just before lunchtime. Fun piles of snow to aim for. Barnyard was fun, some new skiers and cute kiddos. Don’t let the orange rope fool you, the Barn is open!! Terrain park looks to have been recently refreshed. All connectors to Turnpike are open. Lower Ridge was a blast!! One cat track down the middle of the entire trail, and lots of fun natural snow to bounce around in on both sides. Watch out for a few large frozen cookies mixed in with the natural, thankful a friend mentioned them from yesterday. Someone snuck into Ragged Glades, through a break in the rope and sign posts. Was tempted, but resisted. Skiers left of Lower Chute was fun natural, as well as both sides of the Village Green/Main Street complex. Ski patrol hauled one injured snowboarder down off Showboat, closer the lift in the natural. Wambulance from Bristol was waiting in the lot. Still a lot of rocks and snow snakes out there for the time being...heard more snowboarders by 1:00 yelling “rock!” to each other as they found them. Interesting tactic. Party on Wayne. Party on Garth. | |
