Comments | Second week of skiing at Sunday River. Unfortunately, not much has opened since last week. Jibe, Heats Off, and lower Starlight were the only 'new' trails opened up since last weekend. Not much in terms of expansion, but hey at least it's something. Sunday River has the most acreage of any mountain in the east, and if the cold temps help them out I'm sure it will be easier to get a firm snowpack down instead of waiting for natural snow.
Generally speaking though, all trails are in still in great condition. Right Stuff, and Cascade were really the only trails off Barker that weren't a sheet of ice most of the time. Upper T2 was closed for racing, and Monday Mourning had snowguns blasting on it all day. Spruce was the best in terms of quality, even though that area did get crowed at some points. The Grand Rapids / American Express / Lazy River junction was a bit of a rough spot. Whalebacks were everywhere, and Risky and American Express were full of em. They also shut off the guns on lower Risky at some point (I forget when) so you wouldn't have to wipe of wet crap on your face every couple seconds. Just because of that, I think it was the best trail of the day! They also had some new snow on Broadway and Sundance for the beginner area.
Average wait time for a lift was around 2-3 minutes, with the exception of Barker which took around 5-7. Temps started out at around 23, and got up to 34. |
