Comments | Very impressed with the early season product Loon has put together. They've been making snow around the clock, even when others shut down, at least until this morning when they had to do an emergency shut down due to a pipeline bursting on Lower Rampasture. Kanc 8 was the base area lift, which I preferred to the prior gondola strategy. There were three ways down initially, but Lower Rampasture closed after an underground snowmaking pipe burst, washing out part of the snowpack with muddy water. Upper Rampasture to Lower Northstar was good. Upper Rumrunner was decent, but Coolidge Street (snowmaking for part of the morning) was variable with some wet snow, as well as some manmade powder. North Peak Quad options all started with Sunset (a little crowded at times), splitting into Haulback-Lower Walking Boss, Upper Bear Claw, Upper Picked Rock, and Upper Flying Fox. Ways back to the lift were Crosscut and Link. All open trails were generally wall to wall coverage (except the widest parts of lower Walking Boss and upper Sunset, which were still plenty wide nonetheless). Snowmaking was in progress on Upper Walking Boss prior to the emergency shut down. Looks like Blue Ox is close to opening. Trails off the top of the gondola (e.g. Exodus) were groomed out and ready. Guns set up on Brookway, Bear Pause, and Missing Link. Managed to snag $60 tickets online, which seemed reasonable considering the product and the lack of other options nearby. Both lifts were generally ski-on. Other than occasional busy bursts, trails were otherwise not too crowded. Snow was generally loose granular and manmade packed powder. | |
