Snow Trail Conditions90% open; Corn, Wet Powder
Glades GladesThe temperature was in the mid-50s by noon, so any enjoyment in the woods was limited to the very early morning. Almost all of the gladed trails (except Juanita, Julio, and Growler) were marked as open but most of them were barely skiable. My first run of the day was Somewhere/Nowhere and there were so many rocks and bare spots - certainly not what you'd expect following 6-10" of snow from the day before. Anarchy was my third and last glade run of the day - at 11am the top was entirely wet powder and the bottom had significantly more dirt than snow. Ski Patrol must've roped it off shortly after (alongside Flume) because it was closed the next time I passed it by on Launch Pad. The Canyon glades (Big Dipper, The Throne, Chop Chop) looked rather unenjoyable from the Quad and the K1 Gondola so I decided to skip them. Bear Mountain was certainly the largest disappointment as both Centerpiece and Devil's Den were devoid of snow despite having been marked as open on the website.
Moguls MogulsAny trail that wouldn't normally be noted here certainly deserved to by lunchtime. Downdraft and Outer Limits skied great and certainly held up to the temperature the best out of anywhere on the mountain. Other standard bump runs like Double Dipper and (kind of) Escapade were open and skiable, but barely. Moguls were certainly the star of the show that day, but trails like Devil's Fiddle and Royal Flush had long since evaporated. Cascade and lower Skyelark were indistinguishable from Downdraft by the end of the day. I would've guessed that Downdraft and OL had at least another 3 weeks of snow given their current depth.
Terrain Park Terrain Park(s)I didn't ski any parks that day but Peace Park and Dream Maker seemed to be in very nice condition. The Stash was also technically open but the features were unusable because of the wet and extremely thin snow in the woods.

Food and Beverage Food and BeverageHad lunch at Jerk. I highly recommend it if you're in the Northbrook area around lunchtime - certainly the best food on the mountain and probably my favorite in New England as well. Beverages were overpriced as always but the food seemed reasonably-priced for a ski resort in 2022.
Comments CommentsOverall I was very happy with my experience that day - it had been the first day on the slopes since mid-January for me because of a weird college schedule. I was dying to go back into the woods for the first time since February 2021 and was rewarded with much slush, but honestly it was worth it.

Although ~140/155 trails were open that day, there were many inconsistencies between what was marked open online and what was actually there. Cascade and Ovation headwalls were both marked as closed on the website but were certainly open on the mountain. Trails like Anarchy, Big Dipper, and anything to skier's right of Outer Limits was marked as open but certainly shouldn't have been. I remember being on Outer Limits and trying to traverse to Devil's Fiddle, when to my dismay literally the entire trail had evaporated into one steep, brown field despite being marked as open on the app and website. By 4pm there were 20 trail closures since the morning, including Double Dipper but ironically not including Big Dipper - the only glade to survive the massacre.

I skied again on the 22nd but the experience was what you'd expect after this. Maybe around 110 trails were open and it was a much more reasonable temperature that day. I wish I could've been back home to ski Superstar in June but I missed it by a week.
