Session | Full Day | |
Ticket Type | Discount from Ski Area
Lift Lines | 0 minutes | |
Trail Conditions | 35% open; Spring Snow, Spring Snow
Glades | Bare | |
Moguls | Apparently Yard Sale was open, but I don't recall seeing open access to it or anyone skiing it (lots of bare spots). Nothing of note on the North Face, as the trails were either groomed or else mounds were melting too fast to set up.
Terrain Park(s) | Carinthia still has a whole bunch of features and lots of snow cover.
Run of the Day | Ripcord | |
Food and Beverage | Chicken tenders, fries, and a small fountain beverage were a little over $15 in the main lodge. Sundance lodge is closed for the year. Summit Lodge was open and serving. Did not venture into Carinthia Lodge.
Comments | Day started off with an undercast reaching about halfway up the mountain until about 11 AM. As a result, visibility was tough on the lower mountain for the first few hours, but those trails didn't get soft as quickly as the upper main mountain did while baking in the sun. Basically worked my way through every open trail I could find on the main mountain and Carinthia before heading to North Face for the afternoon. Sunbrook is closed for the season and doesn't look like it would be accessible on snow at this point anyway. Carinthia had very good coverage. I felt like a moving target with all of the terrain features and jumpers, but the open trails (5 ways down) were generally wall to wall good coverage (though Seasons Pass is starting to get beat up). Ski Baba was listed as open, but the lift was closed with nary a person to be seen. Tin Lizzy was also listed as open, but I'm not sure how skiable it was (the outlet at Sundance didn't look open). On the main mountain, the there were initially four ways down that split into a little over half a dozen. The Long and Little Johns had decent coverage, as did Deer Run. Lower Ridge was barely passable near the Sundance lift terminal. Ego Alley was also quite tight in places, especially the top, but also had some nice wide open places. Upper Lodge was pretty ugly pretty quickly with ledge and rock sticking up (some of the steeps you had to basically look ahead and figure out a way to ski straight without hitting rock). Cascade had good coverage. The lower mountain was getting pretty ugly looking, but there were some good stretches on Charlie's and Canyon. Some good turns on Snowdance too, however the exit is terrible (dirt washed over ice, mud, etc.). Overall, the Main Mountain had not as much open as the interactive trail map suggested, as a lot of it is partially open trails linked together into a single run. It was the worst skiing of the day and probably the worst remaining coverage on the mountain. Fortunately this is not the case on the North Face. The North Face was firm in the morning, however after about 1PM, it softened up nicely. Committed was starting to get beat up in places and River Run doesn't have much of a future. Plummet and Fallen Timbers weren't groomed overnight, so once they softened, they skied quite nicely late in the day (some grass sticking up and a few tight areas, but generally good). Free Fall had very good coverage, but was a little soft for my liking late in the day. Chute didn't quite have as much coverage as Free Fall, but better than the ungroomed trails. Ripcord was closed most of the day, but they dropped the ropes around 2 when the sun softened up the blue ice. Wall to wall coverage and a good base and the ice was edgable. Quite frankly, the dozen or so runs I took on the North Face was some of the best steeper skiing I've had since Berkshire East earlier in the month. All in all a nice day. Managed 33K of vertical according to the phone.
