Comments | Cannon conditions that I’ve always heard l about, but have been lucky to avoid. Mixed bag at noontime start, lower terrain had softened up nicely, while Profile and the like higher up were still firm although sun soaked. Light wind was enough to remind you it was still in the mid to lower thirties up top, but not bad. FIS race (training?) was taking place on Baron’s, with crossing guards at the Access Trail junction. Dragon’s Drop had super conditions, and was fun although was only open on the upper section. Taft Race slope was fun too, hadn’t been able to ski that before. Tuckerbrook complex had really good soft snow too, nice rolling terrain - hadn’t skied there yet either! Front five had probably the best conditions as far as the intermediate to expert terrain goes. No one had really been to Jaspers Hideaway, or even Banshee. Paulie’s Folly was next best, snow was nice and sugary; a bit piled up here and there but the hard pack was completely covered. Summit saw “snowmaking” on Taft Slalom, which was truly in the best shape. Once it met Ravine...different story. Enter Vanilla Ice ice baby. Aimed for snow patches, and let ‘em run. Skylight was firm, but nice. Upper Cannon was next best, plus the curves made it more fun. The upper portions of the turns held the best snow, while the gully in the middle was scraped down. Heading out of the summit complex, Middle Cannon took the cake. It had a similar sugary granular consistency that Paulie’s Folly had. Terrain parks on lower mountain were good. | |
