Comments | I hadn't night skied at this area since I was a kid. I always forget night skiing can be wholesale conditions, and I think I've been ruined by Pat's Peak for good conditions and lighting.
The last storm clearly brought different precip here than at Ragged. Any powder is now granular and patches of ice are showing up at all the wrong times. We bought our tickets last night (3p-8pm with rentals if needed $44 each, including the cost for the RFID card). We watched the clock and jumped right on the Panorama lift at 3:00 since it runs until 4:00, and made about five runs. Thankful the ride isn't 15 minutes anymore!! The ice patches are primarily up top, and were probably covered well at the beginning of the day. Aiming for snow got dicey on Flintlock and Upper Ramrod. Of course the sides were the best bet for snow, but traffic didn't always allow for travel in the breakdown lane.
Once the the sun began to set, we noticed there were quite a few lights out which left parts of trails dark. The crossover trail from Derringer to the top of the Ramrod chair had these dark spots, coupled with major ice patches. Talk about fast. The remaining night skiing terrain was decent, a couple of trails had some boilerplate here and there. Ski race training, and we think beer league were happening on Ramrod Race and Tiger. Snow making continued on Tiger Steeps, and Blundersmoke. Lots of kiddies getting their lessons, and bouncing around the trails during the first hour of skiing. Cute, and funny at times. |
