Comments | A coating of natural snow the night before made for a nice drive and some softer conditions if you hit the right trails. Only 12 trails were open, the majority of which were lower mountain and had to be accessed by Outback to Deer Run. Big Chief was the only top-to-bottom trail that did not involve Outback/Deer Run, and had surprisingly great conditions. Soft snow in the morning turned into some soft moguls in the afternoon, with no ice to be found. Did at least 5-6 laps on that over the course of the day. Liftlines were very light for the most part, although around 1-2 PM there were two 10-minute stops within a half hour of each other. Even then, lines were much better than what things looked like at Stratton or Okemo. Deer Run, right around the junction with War Dance, was VERY sketchy and had bare spots and ice ridges that were downright dangerous to ski over. Patrol shoveled some snow on the worst of it, but you still had to be careful. Everything else aside from War Dance (which had some soft snow and some ice on it) was packed powder.
I hope they did significant snowmaking on Deer Run last night. If not, it's going to be a rough week at BEast. Snowmaking temperatures will be close to non-existent, and there will be a half inch of rain this weekend. Yikes. |
