Comments | Lifts open: Gondola, Seven Brothers Triple, North Peak Quad, and the East Basin Double. Weather: 25° to start, 32° at 1:30 PM. It was partly sunny. Wind was not a factor. There was about 2" of new powder that fell overnight. New trails opened since last weekend: Upper Walking Boss, Upper Picked Rock, Rolling Bear, Bear Pause, Lower Bear Claw. Booted up at the car and headed to the Gondola to get started. They are no longer loading the Gondola to full capacity. Last weekend the parties in the group line were asked if they were ok with taking in singles. This weekend folks in the group line go up with their party only. Folks in the single line are loaded in groups of 4's. Apparently during the week someone in the singles line jumped into a gondola with a group that wanted to ride up by themselves. A complaint was filed, now everyone has to suffer with longer wait times. Skied mostly from the North Peak Quad. There was a 3-5 minute wait most of the morning. No one was directing traffic but the three lines alternated fairly well on their own. I took the East Basin chair a few times as there was no line there. The snow conditions were packed powder and groomed granular to start out, but it didn't take long for areas of hardpack to emerge. By 1:30 there was too much hardpack for my liking so I called it quits for the day. A lot of snowmaking was in progress in the West Basin area. No snowmaking on the open trails today. The new Kancamagus8 lift is scheduled to open Friday. Hopefully they will be able to load up all 8 chairs. It will be interesting to see how that plays out as some folks have become too accustomed to riding by themselves. | |
