Comments CommentsBait and switch on the ticket prices. The snow report advertised $59 early season available online (no reference to a higher window price), and the printed snow reports said $59 with no subtext. However, they were actually charging $69 at the window. Had I known, I would not have gone, but we had already driven through the notch.

I appreciate that they have made masks optional. Many chose not to wear them. A few were wearing them even while skiing. I'll take freedom of choice over mandates (the draconian mask mandates kept me away from ski areas last winter).

An impressive amount of upper mountain terrain for opening weekend - it is good that Cannon finally changed their snowmaking approach a few years ago (they used to do lower mountain first). Four trails were open off the top with loose granular and packed powder conditions. Taft Slalom and Tramway had the best surfaces. Upper Ravine and Upper Cannon were choppy, which made it a little challenging in flat light/summit fog. However, the Links and lower Upper Ravine were showing the classic Cannon boilerplate pretty quickly. Longest lines of the morning were for the Cannonball Quad.

Mid-mountain had three routes - Middle Cannon to Rock Garden, Spookie to Gremlin, and Middle Ravine. A some boilerplate in places further down, and some rocks poking out by 9 (Rock Garden and upper Gremlin).

Lower mountain had two routes - Lower Cannon and Gremlin. Kind of hectic with beginners coming off the Eagle Cliff Triple and others coming off the quads.

Snow guns were going on Rocket and Gary's (I don't recollect if they were going on Zoomer proper).
