Comments | Conditions were better than I expected (temperature didn't quite get as warm during the day, so the loose granular did not set up after sunset). Jupiter's Storm, Galaxy, Meteor, and Pluto's Plunge all had decent layers of loose granular tilled up by the snowcats on top of a base of hardpack and ice. Generally good going, but watch out for the random ice patches. The waterbar where the trail flattens out was crumbling as the night progressed. Moonwalk, where it approaches Pluto's Plunge, was scraped and thus hard to navigate. UFO and Equinox were bulletproof (saw one snowboarder fall and slide down Equinox). Everything west of there (eg Double Chair area) is on its last legs - blue ice bulges, minimal base, bare spots. Re-Entry is closed and some others may not be far behind. One cannot ski from the back entrance of the lodge down to the slopes, either, as that too is melting out. | |
