Comments | I finally made it over to Saddleback this season for a day of spring skiing. It was a hot day with temperatures reaching 70, which made the snow quote a mess. About half of the terrain on the mountain was open with many bare spots and slushy areas. There were a few trails off of the Rangeley lift which had good cover, and those will likely be the only ones which make it to next weekend. The lifts were efficient at moving people up the hill and the open terrain was pretty fun. They even had a few glades open! I appreciated that they left trails open even with extremely thin cover and some areas of walking. Some of these trails, such as Professor and Jane Craig were some of the best of the day. There were a few areas where I was disappointed with. There were 3-5 people working the bottom of each lift at any given time, but they never bothered to have anyone help manage the lines which formed, so it was kind of a free for all. The corrals also went uphill to the loading area and the RFID gates were too close to the loading point, which inevitably clogged traffic when someone in a group couldn't get through the gates. They also did not enforce COVID regulations at all. There was no mask enforcement of any kind and they had live music in the base area where a couple hundred people were gathered by 4:00 with no distancing and little mask wearing. It was the worst I've seen all season in this sense. However, overall it was a great day of full on spring skiing, and possibly my last of the season. |
