Comments | Skied a few hours this morning on the $29 all day weekend ticket (one of the best deals going). Roughly 4 top to bottom routes. From the top, Piscataquis, Swift, and Upper Androscoggin emptied into Androscoggin and Upper Rapid, then split into Lower Rapid, Kennebec, Lower Androscoggin, and Upper Sunday (which split into Ellis and Aroostook I think). Open trails were generally wall to wall coverage (more than I would have figured) with loose granular on top of a very firm base of frozen granular and blue ice. Flat light was vexing, but the conditions were decent, especially considering the recent weather. Things probably got nicer as the snow softened in the warmer afternoon temperatures. Unfortunately Allagash wasn't open (no snow made on it), which is a shame because it's one of the best cruisers in New England. Typical (in my experience) Black Mountain weekend crowd - four out of every five chairs were empty, which is somewhat amazing considering how big the mountain is, how good the terrain is, and how low the price is. | |
