Comments | Fresh snow overnight made for nice powder on top of last nights groomed packed powder from yesterday’s snowfall. North Peak trails were really nice, but lift lines grew fast. It kind of felt almost like a Saturday crowd. After a few runs I headed over to South Peak to see if it was less crowded. It was, but the powder had been groomed into the recent snowmaking. The result was snow that normally would be ok but after skiing on powder at the main mountain it just didn’t cut it. In fact Cruiser was really icy in many spots. Ripsaw was closed, it was only partially groomed with whales covering the bottom half. Went back over to the West Basin. I caught a nice break in the action when everyone must have been taking lunch. Made a few more runs on the by now tracked out powder. Lower Speakeasy and Upper Northstar remain closed. No snowmaking as yet on those two trails. They are the only snowmaking trails not yet open, not sure what the plan is for them. Coolidge Street was closed for race training. Around 12:30 the lift lines reappeared and I called it to head home. As I was leaving it started snowing again.
The weather was 19° at opening, and 30° when I left. It was partly sunny early on and then got cloudy in advance of snow squalls moving through. |
