Comments CommentsWe visited Black Mountain today for our first lift-served day of the season! Only the platter was open with it's 2 runs, but both had pretty good cover and they were selling tickets for only $20. It was mostly hard-packed machine made snow, and it softened up a bit as the day progressed.

We booted up in the car and wore our buffs as masks while loading the lift, while we were inside, or when around other people, but other than that it really didn't feel much different from a regular day of skiing. The seating in the lodge was only open for those who were purchasing food and/or beverages. Black is really well set up for COVID friendly skiing because of how close the parking lot is to the lifts.

It never got very busy, but because of the platter's limited uphill capacity, there was sometimes a wait of a few minutes to get on. Almost everyone was using a mask when appropriate and the lines were usually decently spaced-out. It was great to get back out on the snow and avoid the crazy crowds and procedures imposed by other areas.
