Comments | 62 of 63 Trails were open today. The Gondola, Bethlehem Express, Rosebrook Summit, West Mountain, and Telegraph T-Bar lifts were open The temperature was in the mid 30° range all day. Mostly sunny skies all day. Low wind. Larger than expected crowd today, including many children. But the lift lines remained short all day. Snow was firm to start out, but softened up by early afternoon. Some lower trail areas near the base had some corn snow. There were a few bare spots on the natural snow trails, but mostly wall to wall groomed coverage. There was some untracked powder in a few spots here and there. On my last gondola ride an older woman from the singles line was last to board. She struggled to load her skis onto the rack, which delayed her entering the cabin. As she entered the cabin the doors were closing. She continued to try to load anyway and became stuck in the door as it closed on her. She was stuck briefly until she tripped the safety bar at the end of the platform, which stopped the drive motor. She was ok, but wow it's a good thing they built in all the safety interlocks. The lift personnel had to retrieve a long bar and reset a lever at the top of the cabin to allow the doors to close. They also had to reset the safety bar at the end of the platform. She boarded the next cabin. At the top terminal I took her skies off the rack and held them for her until she got out of the next cabin. The lesson to be learned here is do not rush to load, just wait for the next chair or cabin. | |
