Comments | Rolled the dice and lost on this one. Checked snow reports the night before and morning of, but nary a mention of wind. When I arrived, the report said Vista Quad was on hold, with an estimated opening of 9:30. It then bumped to 10, 11, noon, etc., with verbiage that it could open soon. Unfortunately it never did. With Wilderness and Timberline completely closed, only the two little chairlifts were running. The place was mobbed, with the main base area lots full before 11 and people being parked down at Timberline. The lines for the two double chairlifts were stretched across the base area, intersecting each other at the quad. It was a long time to wait for 250 or 300 vertical feet. Most of the terrain off the two chairs was open, though perhaps only 3 or 4 groomed ways down. With the exception of I think two ropes, the natural stuff was left open, though pretty bony. They did get a good 3" of powder overnight and it was snowing in the morning, but there wasn't much of a base under it. Though this is included with the Indy Pass, the area still charges you $5 for the RFID. They do seem to have the gates dialed in well, so there weren't any line hold ups. Tough break for the ski area, as I encountered multiple people who were visiting for the first time. Steady stream of vehicles departing this morning, as others were arriving. Employees were friendly and people were trying to make the best of the situation. | |
