Comments | Terrific conditions. I was there mid-late morning. I was pretty happy that Sweepstakes was open, as it only has natural snow and is typically left ungroomed all season. It was in fine shape with big moguls starting to form. Second-favorite trail today was the skier's right of Showboat - was rideable all the way to the trees, which meant it had fun, challenging terrain especially where it sloped down steeply from the groomer's berm - gave me flashbacks to some of the steep moguls on Tux. Only a few rocks pushing out here and there. Super-fun.
Upper Crewcut was riding nice, as was Headwall. I generally avoided flatter terrain as it's hard to keep the speed up on the flats when there's fresh snow.
All in all, I've seen it more crowded on Saturdays. Interesting experiment perhaps in that they didn't have any groupers or rope guides to different group sizes to organize people on either of the high speed lifts. People generally kept the flow going with 5-6 people per chair on the 6-pack. It almost seemed to work better without artificial intervention. |
