Comments CommentsWas pleasantly surprised with the snow cover and conditions today. Thus far, this was the most open terrain and best conditions I've skied in the three days/three states this season.

As the first Indy Pass ski area open, I ended up being the first Indy Pass skier in the East. Just check in at the desk (picture on file, so no ID needed). $5 RFID fee. Indy Pass then sends an e-mail confirmation so that you can track your days used.

Just about three top to bottom runs open, plus the novice carpet slope.

Big Chief top to bottom was excellent packed powder. In addition, upper upper Mohawk was open, as well as the crossover to and from midstation, as well as Lower Mohawk (snowmaking in progress with a few whales, but decent).

Outback was the other option from the top with good cover. A few guns ran a little too long, but did not have much of a detrimental impact. From the end of Outback, the route went down Sundance (now labelled War Dance), then across Deer Run to the bottom of Upper Competition (one could continue all the way to Lower Mohawk). Competition was very good along skiers left with some light man made powder. The trail is not yet wall-to-wall, however there are some big whales on skiers right that will have this wide slope fully covered soon.

Since they just finished mountain biking a few days ago, the Summit Quad was not running (bike carriers coming off). The Mountain Top Triple was running (a relatively slow ride). Enough of a crowd that not many chairs went up empty, however it was still vintage Berkshire East without crowded trails or lift lines.

Nice morning weather with blue skies.
