Comments | Nov. 16, 2019 - Sat. 12 of 87 trails, 4 of 20 lifts, sunny 20F light to moderate winds, machined groomed & loose granular. 4†new in 7 days.
They shut down Challenger & Freefall around 11:30 just as were headed over off the summit. I heard later Challenger broke and there was a 190 person evac over 2 hours. They sent people up the Outpost chair they started up for this purpose only, then put both on hold for the rest of the day. Elsewhere, it was crowded but not insane (depending on your viewwpoint). Conditions were pretty good for early November. 12 trails equaled 5-6 trails TTB to me.. and then 3 trails. Long John, Cascade/Canyon, Gulch, Chute & Freefall. I counted 13 features on Gulch. Several large. They had a bunch of fan guns from the Hermitage next to Heavy Metal. My Mtn ops guy said some of those fans may be headed to Crotched. Over at Carinthia base they cleared all the trees they cut & de-stumped. They put up several telephone poles a quarter of the way into the trail on Inferno at the top of the pipe. South of that they’ve planted 6 or so large evergreens. I was talking to the snow making manager and he said they were building a wind break to protect bat habitat.
