Comments | Today was opening day at Loon! The gondola was the only lift in operation today. The open trails off of the Gondola Summit were Exodus, Summit Loop, Flying Fox, Upper Picked Rock, Bear Claw top to bottom, Crosscut, Basin Street from Crosscut, Grand Junction, Seven Brothers, and also the Brookway. Most trails were groomed well. Bear Claw was the smoothest. However, some ice balls were present on Flying Fox and Seven Brothers in the morning. Snow making was not in progress on any of the open trails today. It was quite busy at opening, and with the Gondola being the only lift open today the wait was about 20 minutes in the morning. The new RFID Gate system made it's debut today at the gondola. There were many glitches in the beginning; ie Silver Passes not working, need to wand the pass by the left sensor, then only the right side was working, etc. By later in the day the system seemed to be working better. Most of the Season passes were not mailed out in time for opening day this year. All morning the line at the season pass office was close to an hour long. Fortunately for me I received my pass just this past Tuesday, but only after calling last week to request it. ICON passes are now direct to the lift gate this year, no longer is a stop at the ticket office required. | |
