Comments CommentsTerrific spring riding day and WV the only way I'll visit: mostly open, warm, low winds, and few people - YAY!!!! I really wanted to visit Green Peak. I was a bit disappointed with Green Peak - I think of it as just another bunch of boring wide trails - oh well!!!! SO, after a few warm-up runs, I decided my plan would be to make sure to ride all the (open) black diamonds. I was happy to finally find conditions soft enough to do lower Bobby's (minus the moguls which I avoided). It was meh... True Grit is so much more fun and extensive - True Grit reminds me a lot of Cannon's Avalanche. I don't think Pfosi's Pfolly and Ruffled Feathers were open - I looked for a bunch of ways in but couldn't find.

I also wanted to ride the High Country T-Bar - the staff was friendly as it was a challenge, as always, to ride a T-bar on a snowboard. Not my favorite lift but I'm glad I rode it.. The top, like most of the slopes, lacks character but has good views.

After alternating lifts I took a break and got some water at the Schwendi Hutte - nice water cups - spring sun/snow made me so thirsty!!!.

Final run I realized I hadn't hit Wayne Wong Way - so I headed back to Green Peak. The drop in has a caution sign suggesting a "cliff" - hmmmm - I had no idea what that meant..... top of it was fine, then, I was expecting some kind of open rock face or something... I saw 1 set of tracks. OK, so, I keep going down and it got really steep - YIKES - I saw a small ice patch, so I started slipping down, freaked out, and washed out..... think long sliding fall here - I'm trying to stop my slide but it's pretty scary..... I finally manage to dig my board in enough to lose speed and finally stop. But wait! My thumb is throbbing - I'm afraid to take my glove off and I feel shaky..... I just didn't feel good - I was about to go for another run on the main hill but decided I'd been there 4 hours - I was good..... [update.... broken thumb it turns out.... hoping it doesn't need to be pinned :( ]

Still a super-fun day!!!
