Comments | Warm today, stayed cloudy for most part with a few breaks of sun. Slow, controlled skiing was the play of the day, although on some trails it was fun to let loose. All trails were in good shape, but with warm weather got soft. Very minimal crowds, leaving some corduroy on the sides especially the terrain parks which skied like butter later in the day.
Spear Peak was fantastic all around. Showboat was soft enough that, with care for what piles had built up, one could carve the whole way down without hesitation. My favorite. Flying Yankee was a lot of fun and most consistent.
The main mountain was also good. Birches was cut up by late afternoon on the first half with phenomenal conditions the remaining way. Upper Exhibition was getting scratched down, but lower still had great snow. Chutes was still fun in all it's banked curves and whales. Headwall, Ridge and Main Street were still great - small patches of ice coming through on top of Headwall but nothing major. Sweepstake was looking a bit baron in spots on the drive in but we did not partake. Finally got to ski Easy Winder top to bottom but was too late in the season. It is open (along with Big Rock and Mikey's Run) and was groomed today but the snow was too sticky for the flatter sections making it difficult to keep a good pace. There were also some sure signs of spring on the trail, between grass and rocks. |
