Comments | The recent thaw / freeze cycle left the snowpack in a frozen state. Was told that the mountain was so icy yesterday that many folks made only two or three runs and left. Groomers worked hard overnight and conditions were said to be much improved today. There was also about an inch of fresh fluffy snow that fell overnight. Started at South Peak. Boom Run and Cruiser were firm and fast. Twitcher and Jobber were kind of icy so only one run was made on each. Surprisingly Ripsaw was in decent condition, and was the best trail at South Peak today. The West Basin trails were mostly boilerplate with a covering of chopped up ice from grooming. Blue Ox in particular had a lot of sections of ice chunks and death cookies. The annual Cardboard Box Derby was held there today. North Peak was in better shape. Walking Boss was groomed nicely from top to bottom. Upper Flume also skied nicely, Lower Flume was a bit choppier. Sunset was nice, but had a stiff wind blowing up the trail. Picked Rock and Flying Fox were nice. Hallback to Angel Street and Basin Street back to Camp III skied nicely. Triple Trouble and Big Dipper were listed as open in the snow report, but they were closed. On Loon Peak Grand Junction was groomed well. Seven Brothers and Picaroon were nice. The day was mostly sunny, but the temperature remained below freezing. As the day went on the conditions actually improved. The ice chunks and death cookies were pulverized into granules and powder by the skier traffic. Lift lines were mostly non existent today, except for a short wait at the Gondola. Made laps on the Kank Quad and North Peak all morning, skiing right back onto the lift. | |
