Comments CommentsAfter a mediocre morning at Killington, having read on here that Pico's conditions were good yesterday, I opted to drive up for the afternoon. Indeed, the conditions were much better than Killington and the crowds were truly midweek.

Started on Little Pico with a great run down B Slope (no racing at that time, but a few gates were set up later apparently), then hit A Slope (headwall had some ice and moguls, but the rest was good).

I then headed over to Outpost, where I discovered Bronco was groomed wall to wall. Great conditions, so I hit it twice. Sidewinder was a little tricky at the first steep (ice), but otherwise decent.

I then headed over to the summit quad. Pike was scratchy in places on the steeps, fairly wide (and minimal bumps). Upper KA was scratchy, but skiable. Upper Sunset 71 (ungroomed) was rough (I bypassed the short second section, as it was down to ice and rock) to start, but the lower bumps were forgiving, as was Lower Sunset 71. 49er was remarkably decent, whereas I tend to find it pretty rough later in the day.

Birch Glades was excellent packed powder (ungroomed), as was Lower Giant Killer (heard enough scratching on Upper from the lift/saw the crossover entrance was blue ice, so didn't bother). Took Sunset Schuss to C Slope for the last run, which was nice natural skiing.

Knomes Knoll was not operating, so the upper 3 trails were not accessible (I suspect they will be open tomorrow). Other than that, I do not recollect seeing any closed trails.

A great reminder of how I like Pico more than Killington.
