Comments | Disappointing morning, after an almost two hour drive to Sunday River. Survival skiing was the name of the game.
Snow makers are definitely doing their jobs, but who ever is coordinating the where and when it's being made should seriously be reconsidered. Skiing over fresh man made snow is one thing, but deep, soft, yellow and still wet snow? The trails shouldn't have been opened, a different part of the mountain could've been utilized. The Locke Mountain Triple was the only lift in service, with Barker running but not open. T2 and the Punches were the only trails open today, with the snow report being posted only an hour before opening (7:56am). On top of the wet snow on the trails from snow making that had run too late into the morning, there was no grooming. On anything. The upper portion of the mountain was in okay shape, but mid and lower mountain trails were a mess. We skied each trail at least once, and after getting a ski caught in deep wet snow resulting in an eject we said enough, and went in to recoup our day from guest services. They were gracious and handled it very well, one thing Sunday River had right today.
A lot of other ski areas stayed closed today to take advantage of colder temps and continue making snow. Sunday River would have probably been wiser to do the same. |
