Food and Beverage Food and BeverageBarker Lodge cafeteria open. Regular size hot chocolate or coffee is about $2.50, which is pretty reasonable for ski area F&B. Apparently this is a better deal than at some of the other lodges at the resort.
Comments CommentsArrived at opening and skied 7 runs without dealing with a drop of precip. Rather than use my Ikon Pass, I opted to pay the $35 ticket price, to save the 5 tickets for otherwise more expensive days later in the season.

Top to bottom claim was stretching it, but one could technically ski from the top of Barker all the way to the bottom on some sort of frozen surface.

No snowguns running, so the October carwash effect was not an issue.

Upper mountain skiing was pretty good - packed powder corduroy to start. T2 is about half width, summit to mid station, but loaded with multiple feet of base. Upper Sunday Punch was wall to wall. Jim's Whim is also open, connecting the two.

One could also skate ski up a groomed Jungle Road to the top of Ecstasy, which was pretty nice skiing due to the uphill deterrent to get there. A few thin patches on the latter, but not too bad.

One could load the Barker Mountain Triple on ice/hay at the base and ride to the top, or else load at the mid station (to either go to the top or download). Cannot get off at the mid station, nor would you want to. We ended up loading at the mid station for all but our ski out to the bottom.

Sunday Punch proper was okay, maybe halfway wide and groomed. Lower Sunday Punch (e.g. after crossing under the quad, which is not yet running and has no snow at the base terminal) was not that good, as it was ungroomed with frozen granular, death cookies, rock, and frozen grass. One could very carefully pick their way back to the lift, but I can't imagine that will be possible as temperatures rise today. Plenty of snowpack up high to allow for upper mountain skiing even if temperatures warm up for awhile.

Not too crowded to start, but lines were building as the morning progressed.
