Comments | Conditions were all over the place. First tracks were powder (1 inch new overnight) on top of corduroy. However, thereafter the groomed trails turned into golf ball skiing. Once the sun came out after lunch, the golf balls turned into loose granular and spring snow, depending upon the elevation. Ungroomed trails still had some packed powder and occasional rocks/dirt. Only three ways groomed down Jackson Gore, creating some congestion. One more groomed route would have helped, especially considering barely anyone was going on the mogul trails. Solitude trails tended to be frozen granular with a little loose granular on top, which was welcome when the golf balls were annoying everywhere else. Main mountain was in decent shape. South Face had some thin spots and a lot of choppiness. Getting in line for the 6 pack felt like catching a train at rush hour, so we spent a good portion of the day on the fixed grip lifts. Things started emptying out around 2. While we were hoping to get a final run in at Solitude, they surprisingly roped those trails and closed that lift before 3:45. In addition, the Jackson Gore bubble was shut down at that time. The web site says those lifts are open until 4. A bit vexing, as we had to navigate beginner trails and some uphill to get back to Jackson Gore. Other skiers seemed confused too, like us not wanting to ski down to the main base area to potentially find those lifts closed early. | |
