Comments CommentsCold, windy day. Last time I wore a ski mask this regularly was when I was hanging out with Patty Hearst.
Snow report claimed/claims 87 trails open, but about a dozen of those "open" trails were "on hold" and thus roped/closed.

Gondola ran for maybe an hour today due to the winds. The lower 6 packs and Ursa ran all day, but Shooting Star closed early.

Conditions were initially powder/packed powder. One to two inches of powder fell after grooming, making for initially smooth conditions. The winds scoured the upper mountain down to frozen granular by afternoon, but it was edge-able.

Started off in the Sun Bowl, as I was waiting for the clouds to lift. There were 5 ways down, as Kidderbrook/Rising Star/Catch 22 were closed and Sun Beam/Gentle Ben were closed...ahem..."on hold." The Sunriser super slope skied very nicely though. Upper Downeaster was open despite not being groomed, providing perhaps the steepest (albeit short) terrain.

Upper Snow Bowl area was very windy and thus down to frozen granular pretty quickly. The lower portions were great and saw very little traffic, as there was no easy way to get in there (quad and gondola were closed, so the only option was to take the two six packs in tandem, then skate ski uphill into the wind). Drifter and Lower Liftline were particularly fun. Appears they may be making snow over there soon, as they were working with hoses and running air through the system this afternoon.

Upper mountain off the Ursa had good conditions this morning, but was getting scoured by the wind in the afternoon. Grizzly Bear was closed. Frank's Fall Line opened late in the day after racing training and was quite good.

Lower mountain had good packed powder conditions. South American was particularly good, I think in part because the entrance is sort of hidden behind the lodge/lift terminal.

No lift lines and minimal crowds. Managed just over 30K vertical in about 6 hours, despite needing a few warm up breaks.
