Comments | Very disappointing day. Only four open trails on the main mountain. Not only that, but I parked and skied onto the Bucksaw, only to find out there was no way to get back to it! No one said anything about it, and the interactive map showed two ways back down (both had been groomed), but alas it was all roped off. Shuttle driver soon figured out why he had people requesting rides to those lots (not normally part of the weekday route). Each time I skied by Bullwinkles, there were confused skiers standing at the Horsehoe and Windrow ropes. Timberline complex looks like it's done for the year. Whiffletree can't be far behind, judging by the brown snow and rocks on Upper Whiffletree. Contrary to the snow report, only four main mountain trails that were open: Haul Back, Ramdown, Sluice, and Tote Road. There are other trails with what looks like wall to wall snowpack, but they were roped/bulletproof (Narrow Gauge and Comp Hill were closed for racing). Tote Road was awful - boilerplate, blue ice bulges, and death cookies. Sluice was getting skied off quickly. Candyside was the best of the lower mountain trails off the Super Quad. The sun never broke out and the clouds were increasing, so I bailed before lunchtime and went to Saddleback (better conditions). I've had some great April days at Sugarloaf, but this was not one of them. |
