Comments | Had a great day of spring skiing at Magic on Friday. It was just above freezing when we arrived, and it warmed up into the mid 50s with beautiful sunshine and soft snow.
I spent the morning on the low-angle groomers, waiting out the weather. Magic Carpet and Wand both had good coverage and skied good in the morning. Trick was icier, and hadn't softened too much even by afternoon. Medium was good, as were the easier trails off of Wand (Kinderspiel, Show Off, Carumba, Lower Redline), firm and fast early but softening quickly.
I took my first run on Talisman before lunch, when it was more firm. Even then, it skied well and was enjoyable to carve on. Sorcerer stayed icy until later in the afternoon, when the sun and warm temps finally got to it. Upper Wizard felt thin, and I suspect there will be walking required on some parts of it soon unless the groomers can work a miracle. However, Talisman and most other snowmaking trails had a deep base. By the late afternoon, it was prime spring skiing. Black Line and Magician both softened up and made for some great technical bump skiing, with bare spots particularly on Black Line. Talisman began bumping up - I expect it was great on Saturday. I even got a tan out of it. |
