Comments | What a day! My first day at Black was certainly something. On the way up, it was snowing. The snow continued throughout the first hour-and-a-half after opening, and, once half an inch of snow had been deposited between the ridges of the corduroy, it blew over and revealed a crystal-clear, deep blue sky. However, the old matriarch to the north wouldn't reveal her summit until mid-afternoon. Several of the ravines stayed obscured all day long. It's good to see Tuckerman Ravine every once in a while. Meanwhilst, the sunny slopes changed over from packed powder and windblown powder to spring snow (but not in the shade!), and when that refroze at about closing time, patches of golf balls appeared on some of the more heavily-trafficked trails. However, by last chair (which I rode up on), some patches of corduroy and powder pockets could still be found. Try the wide-&-steep section of Roller Coaster to-morrow, there might be some left! Unfortunately, the old J-Bar was not running, though everything else was. The Platter even boasted brandy-new return bullwheel bearings to boot! Those were installed last week! I didn't stay for the torchlight skiing, unfortunately, but it looked like great fun. Ski Heil! |
