Comments CommentsTo start I'll channel Mr Rocket for an Indy Pass introspective. Whatever I signed up for/registered, etc on Magic's site last year for the Entabamably RFID thing still worked. Made my reservation the night before. Tried using the kiosk things. I found it interesting that they are card swipe machines that show the little magnetic stripe swipe icon but neither Indy Card nor Magic Card has those. I tried tapping both on the screen, nothing happened. So I swiveled over to the window and handed both cards to the guy in the window who did I think scanned them maybe handed them right back to me and said "you're good". So no need to check in I guess and no need for a new $5 RFID card this year. But, this also must mean if you have to make a reservation, and you end up not going, you're day is deducted regardless.
OK on with the report! Beautiful day! Yes the expected powder day tomorrow(sunday) would have been better, but I wanted to avoid the crowds. Lots were pretty full, but there was a race going on. I never waited in line. Got on the Red lift at 11. Mix of sun and clouds, low 20's, calm and cleared up to an almost bluebird day by 3. The midweek snows definitely gave this place a shot in the arm. There was plenty of skieed off terrain, but it was still skiable. Hit Wizard/Slide of Hans twice. Stayed mostly on the East Side. Best snow cover on the snowmaking trails, but trails like Slide of Hans, White Out and Mystery while thin, still skiied very good. Witch was open, but was dirt and rocks. A ski patroller I rode up with said they do drop ropes on those to get the base packed down before a storm. Also found out the cost to rent the mountain for the day: $10,000 which included Red Chair and the Black Line Tavern. I didn't ask if that included an open bar or not. Packed Powder everywhere, and ice or rocks could easily be avoided. Only trail I didn't care for since it was louder powder was Vertigo. Only the carpet lift on the old Little chair beginner side. Geoff gave away the other handle tow to Erik the Great. Great day to be at Magic!
