Comments | After an almost week's long of near perfect skiing days, I figured maybe my luck would run out, and that morning as we drove up from Farmington to Sugarloaf in the rain, I thought we'd be done. Rain in the parking lots at 9:00 am turned to sleet at the base and snow, and even HEAVY SNOW up top before noon! This was a day to spend on the upper mountain. I should mention that this was my first time here and I was glad to have my friend Sarah as my guide. We took a little tour of the mountain and 3 separate weather patterns before settling into the King Pine area, which by 10:30 was getting dumped on. The upper mountain literally picked up 6" of snow that morning! We went in to dry off just before noon, and by the time we finished lunch, most of the weather had moved out and we had powder piles to ski on! Timber side never opened, it was windy on that side of the hill all day, rest of the mountain was pretty calm. Tried our hand at the beginning glades of the Bracket Basin (Can't Dogs 1&2) and we could have stayed in there for a week! We felt like Warren Miller Ski Film stars! Our legs were shot by 3:30. 5 out of 6 intense ski days in a row ain't bad for 44. Don't put the skis away yet kids, there is still alot of winter left!!
Did I mention I started this 6 day trip with a ride on the Black Mountain J-Bar??!! |
