Comments CommentsAn interesting day today for sure. Today was much busier than a typical off-peak Monday Everyone, myself included, wanted to take advantage of this recent snowfall before the forecasted r*in event Wednesday). By noon, people were parked all the way down in the first lot as you drive up the access road. Weather was clear and temperatures around 30*F. Lift lines and minimal and the lodges weren’t overcrowded, but the limited open terrain meant the trails that were open were quite congested. I arrived around noon, and much of the fresh snow was completely skied off by that point with artificial moguls being created on the slopes accordingly. Going with Bonanza as ROTD as it seemed to retain more soft snow than other runs, and the right fork near the bottom was left ungroomed and offered undoubtedly the softest snow to be found on the mountain by the afternoon. All other open terrain was groomed before being roughened by the crowds. Snowmaking was actively taking place on Cataract and Skyway. Spruce Triple and associated trails have not opened yet, all other chairs open. Despite the skied off slopes, it a good day and I do not regret going. I was also pleased to see the snowmakers at work on several new trails (as stated above).

A couple miscellaneous notes if you’re visiting in the next few days:

-Don’t be fooled if you see the Spruce Triple operating with riders - as of today it was only open to personnel setting up the race course on Eggbeater (which is not yet open to the public). This may change in the coming days.

-If you decide to go to the South peak learning area from the main mountain, be aware that Sunnyside Down (the trail connecting South peak with the rest of the mountain) is not yet open, so you will need to either walk across the parking lot or pizza up the Fin trail to get back (I found this out the hard way!)
