Comments CommentsSo the 31st of December, not covered in snow, Nor was the Turnpike from Stockbridge to Boston...

Happy New Year! Being as pretty much every area in New England is crappy right now, I decided to try Catamount as it was the closest with the most open and did not have Indy blackouts. Nothing was spectacular since there is virtually zero natural snow anywhere, but what they had open was good enough to want to ski again and again. Multiple ways to ski off the 3 chairs open. Only one way from the top, and once you knew where the ice was, it was pretty decent cruising. Walter's Way I liked the best, ironic because the start of it was thin and ice chunks. But once you got past the first curve, it skied nice. Only the Ridge Run from the top. Most terrain open off Meadows Triple. Cat Quad had 3 nice trails with good snow on them. They were blowing snow all day on Upper Promenade and the Glade trails. No real lines to speak of. Carpet lifts were backing up with new skiers after 1 pm. I liked the layout of this mountain and will definitely come back when there is real snow.
