Comments | 2-3 inches of wet powder fell overnight, making conditions initially fun but then tricky. Our first ride up we got to meet Gadget from Gadget and Gidget’a AT shuttle service based out of the Mount Everette area! He had a great come up story in life, and was a really fun genuine guy to talk to. Keep them in mind for any AT thru or section hiking needs!
We took advantage of Catapult and Ripper finally being open (Catamount’s steeps), and enjoyed a fun challenge with the heavy snow. Racers were working on pushing out skiers right for training on Catapult, and the trail was pretty skied out by lunchtime. Ripper was groomed about three cat tracks wide, and it had its share of deep chowder chunks by lunchtime thanks to racers running synchronized hockey stops between laps.
Things were pretty soft from the beginning, but by the time we boogied out at lunchtime it had become extra soft. There were some pretty dark thin spots forming on the main trails. Natural snow trails with gravel beneath them had no warnings. Beginner complex was puzzling because the snow was very thin there as well, but we had heard from locals that they were laying blankets of man made snow elsewhere on the mountain. Many long time passholders were frustrated with the new ownership and management of the mountain’s terrain. |
