Comments | Today was a beautiful bluebird day at Baker Mountain! Not only is Baker one of the oldest operating ski areas in New England (it opened in 1937), but, with 460' of vertical, it is the tallest ski area in New England served exclusively by surface lifts. Last night's refreeze, combined with temperatures in the 20s today, meant that conditions were fast & firm frozen granular for most of the day. The ski area was 100% open, and all of the trails were groomed, except for the top parts of Bodybag & Bucksaw. These ungroomed trails, and the glades, had a nasty crust which made skiing them very difficult.
Baker has a fun variety of trails, with both wide slopes and classic New England cruisers through the woods. The ski area was relatively busy today, but there was never a wait of more than a few T-bars. Baker is also one of the best values around, especially for its size; two full day lift tickets and a large lunch for two people cost just under $45 in total! |
