Comments CommentsI had a bit of time yesterday afternoon so I decided to stop by Blue Hills, an area I've hiked several times in summer but never skied. It was surprisingly busy, and I had to park in an auxiliary lot about a 5 to 10 minute walk from the lodge. There were a lot of lessons going on, and the chair had a pretty long line when I got there (about 3:30). There were two ways down from the top: Patriots, a relatively narrow, winding blue, and Big Blue, the main slope that starts expert and ends intermediate. I warmed up on Patriots and then did four more runs on Big Blue before leaving at 4:45. The snow was starting to soften into springlike conditions, and a few small bare/mud patches were popping up in the ungroomed skier's right of Big Blue. The only significantly icy spot was the left turn at the bottom of the lift unloading ramp.

It was a nice way to spend an afternoon and it was fun to check out a more local ski area. I enjoyed the unpretentious vibe and it was great to see lots of people enjoying themselves at affordable prices and an accessible location. I would definitely like to go back there when all the terrain is open.
